Hearing Aid Compatible Cell Phones for Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Cell phones on the market today have been designed to work better with hearing aids. All major cell phone manufacturers are required by the FCC to offer hearing aid compatible cell phones, so the selection is expanding all the time.

An important thing to look for when deciding on a cell phone is the M and/or T ratings of the phone. Phones with an M-rating have been designated as hearing aid compatible. The M-rating refers to the microphone mode of your hearing aid. It designates phones with RF emission levels that are less likely to interfere with a digital hearing aid. Phones with an M3 or M4 rating are considered most compatible. Starting in September of 2006, certain phones were given a "T" on the label, which designates the phone is able to be coupled with hearing aids in the telecoil mode. The higher the "T" number, the more likely it is that you will be able to use a phone with your hearing aid in the telecoil mode. Phones with a "T3" or "T4" rating are considered best for a hearing aid user.

The following chart includes phones that can currently be purchased on our Cell Phone website and are best for hearing aid users based on their M and/or T rating. This list is based on current models as of 8/15/08 and will be updated every few months since models change constantly.
